Pakistan Speeds Up Cybercrime Investigations with Meta Partnership
FIA Partners with Meta APAC to Fast-Track Cybercrime Investigations in Pakistan

Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched a dedicated communication framework with Meta Asia Pacific (APAC) to accelerate investigations into cybercrime, online fraud, hate speech, identity theft, and other digital offences involving Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The collaboration marks a significant step in strengthening Pakistan’s cybercrime enforcement by enabling faster and more efficient access to digital evidence through official legal channels.
As part of the initiative, Meta has formally recognized the FIA’s Single Point of Contact (SPOC) operating from the National Cyber Crime Centre (NC3). The centralized communication mechanism will streamline legally authorized requests related to user information, account preservation, emergency disclosures, login records, and content removal, ensuring secure coordination between Pakistani authorities and Meta.
The newly established channel addresses one of the biggest challenges faced by cybercrime investigators: lengthy response times. Until now, the FIA depended on Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) procedures and international law enforcement mechanisms to obtain information from Meta. These processes often required several months, delaying investigations into time-sensitive cases. With the direct SPOC framework in place, authorities expect significantly faster responses, enabling investigators to preserve and obtain crucial digital evidence before it is lost or altered.
FIA Director General Dr. Usman Anwar said the collaboration will strengthen Pakistan’s ability to investigate a wide range of cyber offences, including organized cybercrime networks, financial scams, online extortion, child exploitation, cyber harassment, terrorism-related activities, and other serious digital crimes. Faster access to digital evidence is expected to improve investigation outcomes while supporting timely legal action against offenders.
Officials emphasized that the new system does not bypass legal safeguards. Every request submitted to Meta will continue to undergo strict legal review and internal approval before being processed through the FIA’s centralized SPOC. The framework has been designed to maintain transparency, accountability, and a comprehensive audit trail while improving operational efficiency.
The partnership reflects Pakistan’s broader strategy to modernize cybercrime investigations through stronger international cooperation and enhanced digital forensic capabilities. As cyber threats become increasingly sophisticated, collaboration between global technology companies and law enforcement agencies is emerging as a key component of effective digital security.
With cyber fraud, online scams, hate speech, and identity theft continuing to rise, the FIA-Meta collaboration is expected to enhance Pakistan’s capacity to respond swiftly to digital threats while ensuring investigations remain compliant with legal and privacy standards. The initiative also signals growing cooperation between the country’s cybercrime authorities and major technology platforms in creating a safer online environment for citizens.
