Rawalpindi Expands E-Challan Camera Network to 14 New Locations

Rawalpindi’s e-challan system now covers 14 additional locations, strengthening automated traffic enforcement and improving road safety across the city.

Rawalpindi expands e-challan camera network for digital traffic enforcement

The City Traffic Police Rawalpindi has expanded its e-challan camera network to 14 new locations, reinforcing digital traffic enforcement under the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA). The initiative is designed to improve road safety, strengthen compliance with traffic laws, and enhance the efficiency of automated traffic monitoring across the city. The newly installed cameras are integrated with the PSCA’s automated e-challan system, enabling authorities to detect and process traffic violations without manual intervention. Motorists committing offences such as red-light violations, lane discipline breaches, seat belt violations, helmet violations, and illegal parking (where applicable) will receive electronic challans generated through the digital enforcement system.

New Cameras Target High-Traffic Areas

According to traffic authorities, the latest expansion covers several major roads and busy commercial areas in Rawalpindi. By extending surveillance across high-traffic corridors, officials aim to improve traffic flow, identify violations more efficiently, reduce congestion, and encourage safer driving habits. The expanded network is expected to strengthen enforcement in areas that experience heavy vehicle movement, allowing authorities to monitor traffic more effectively while minimizing the need for on-ground enforcement personnel.

How the E-Challan System Works

The e-challan system relies on advanced surveillance cameras integrated with automated vehicle identification technology. When a traffic violation is detected, the system records the offence, retrieves the vehicle’s registration details, and automatically generates an electronic challan for the registered owner.

This fully digital process reduces reliance on manual enforcement, improves accuracy, and ensures greater transparency in the issuance of traffic fines.

Part of Punjab’s Smart Traffic Management Strategy

The expansion is part of Punjab’s broader smart traffic management initiative, which leverages digital technologies to modernize traffic enforcement and improve urban mobility. By automating the detection and processing of violations, authorities aim to reduce human error, enhance transparency, and promote consistent enforcement of traffic regulations.

Officials believe that technology-driven enforcement encourages motorists to follow traffic rules more responsibly, ultimately contributing to fewer road accidents and safer public spaces.

PSCA Continues Expanding Digital Policing

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority has been steadily expanding intelligent surveillance and digital policing initiatives across major cities. Through integrated camera networks, automated traffic monitoring, and data-driven enforcement systems, the authority aims to improve both traffic management and public safety.

Motorists have been advised to wear helmets and seat belts, obey traffic signals, avoid traffic violations, and ensure their vehicle registration details remain up to date. As the Rawalpindi e-challan camera network continues to expand, digital enforcement is expected to play an increasingly significant role in creating safer roads and promoting disciplined driving across the city.
