Pakistan Mobile Phone Assembly Falls 12% as Imports Surge 540% in June 2026

Pakistan assembled 1.93 million mobile phones in June 2026, down 12% year-on-year, while imports surged 540%, highlighting a shift in the country’s handset market.

Pakistan Mobile Assembly Drops 12% as Phone Imports Surge 540%

Pakistan’s local mobile phone manufacturing and assembly witnessed a significant slowdown in June 2026, with production declining by 12% year-on-year (YoY), while mobile phone imports recorded a massive 540% increase, according to the latest data released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

The figures indicate a shift in Pakistan’s handset market, where imported smartphones are rapidly regaining market share despite the continued dominance of locally assembled devices.

Local Mobile Phone Production Declines

PTA data shows that local manufacturers assembled 1.93 million mobile phones in June 2026, compared to 2.19 million units in June 2025, reflecting a 12% annual decline.

On a monthly basis, production also fell by 4% from May 2026, highlighting a continued slowdown in Pakistan’s domestic mobile manufacturing sector.

Mobile Phone Imports Jump 540%

While local production weakened, mobile phone imports surged dramatically.

Pakistan imported 0.64 million mobile phones in June 2026, compared to only 0.10 million units during the same month last year. This represents a 540% year-on-year increase and more than doubles the number of imported devices recorded in May.

Industry analysts attribute the sharp rise in imports to pre-budget purchasing activity and increased consumer demand following the launch of AIRLINK’s Apple Mono Store.

First Half of 2026 Performance

Despite the June slowdown, Pakistan assembled 13.10 million mobile phones during the first six months of 2026. However, this was 8% lower than the 14.24 million units assembled during the same period in 2025.

Including imported devices, the country’s total mobile phone supply reached 15.65 million units in the first half of 2026, marking a 4% increase compared to the corresponding period last year.

Overall Mobile Phone Supply Continues to Grow

Total handset availability, including both locally assembled and imported phones, reached 2.57 million units in June 2026.
